Upcoming Events: Celebrating Black History Month
The celebration of Black history is every single day. Each February is another opportunity to celebrate Black history; as Arte Noir puts it, February is Black Love Month. The national designation of Black History Month reflects our shared commitment to celebrating Black achievement, but it is critical in our learning and exploration all year round. The official designation of this month has changed over time, expanding from a weeklong celebration created by Carter G. Woodson in 1926 into Black History Month in 1960. It has since been referred to as African American History Month, and, more recently, Celebration of the African Diaspora. Though the naming conventions have changed, February remains a month of reflection and celebration of Black history, life and culture — paying tribute to people and events of the past, to celebrate the work happening now to advance racial equity and battle all forms of racism and racial injustice. Among the infinite ways to celebrate, one way we can be intentional about this celebration is through the arts! We are in the arts industry ourselves, afterall! There are so many artistic talents on our Lavish Roots Team working in pursuit of justice and a better world. Art helps build bridges across genres and generations, whether it’s through the food we make or the projects we support, here are some ways you can celebrate the contributions made by Black artists here in the Pacific Northwest.

Safety Corner: Message from The Safety Team
Broken/Malfunctioning Equipment
We use many different pieces of equipment throughout our day, and we need to make sure that it is in good working order. When using equipment that plugs into the wall, please be sure to inspect the cord and plug for any damage before use. Check that the grounding pin, the bottom of the three prongs on the plug, is intact. Look up and down the cord, checking for holes in the wire casing. If any equipment is damaged, please do not use! Let a manager or member of the Safety Team know so we can work to get the equipment repaired or replaced. Thanks everyone and have a lovely weekend!

Digital Idea Box
Did you know Lavish Roots has a Digital Idea Box? The Lavish Roots Digital Idea Box is a tool designed to help communication and innovation within our organization. It gives you an open opportunity to share feedback, suggestions, and creative ideas directly with Lavish Roots partners! While we always encourage face-to-face discussions with your managers, we recognize that some may prefer to share thoughts anonymously; the Digital Idea Box allows for just that; though there’s still an opportunity within the form for you to share your name so that we can collaborate on your ideas. Your insights are crucial in driving positive changes and improvements, and we look forward to hearing your thoughts on how we can continue to grow and thrive together.
