Jorge Moreno, Pastry Super Stars & Presidential Medallions

Team Member Showcase: Jorge Moreno

“I would love to highlight Jorge in our newsletter this week. His contribution to quality culinary practices, strong positive personality and enhanced professionalism make him a champion of the qualities and characteristic we value at Lavish.” - Chef Jeff Zanatta

A Message from Jorge: I started my experience as a cook while transitioning from a career as an architect. I was trying to find something I was passionate about so I would enjoy pairing my passion with my profession. I have loved the experience of learning. From the colleagues with different backgrounds to passionate people willing to teach to the intricacies of knife work and simple braises and sauces. My favorite part of being a culinarian is the experience with guests enjoying or critiquing your food. I have learned to take every experience in the positive as when someone loves something they let you know but also when something needs work they try to help you understand a constructive way to improve your skill. Of course, my favorite lesson learned is to taste, taste and then taste again!! Brightness and simplicity, letting the ingredients speak for themselves. These are my passions.

Gabby (she/her), Pastry Lead, and Jasmine (they/them), Pastry Cook, did an incredible job making pastries this week. In the photo they are posing with White Velvet Cupcakes made for this Friday's lunch service.” - Lexie

Get Involved: About “Voices of Tomorrow”

Voices of Tomorrow (VOT) is a community-based organization serving childcare providers and families in King County’s East African immigrant and refugee community. VOT was founded in 2012 by two of East African teachers because they saw inequities in the early learning system that deeply impacted the growth, development, and academic performance of our community’s children.
